Taking the Spam "Flavour" from Email Marketing

Most experienced marketers are aware of the difference between Spam and Non Spam, officially. We need to have subscribers sign up first before we can start sending and also offer a method of unsubscribing at any time. There are many more guidelines to Spam but these are the two major ones.

Now I would like to talk to you about how to go about not having your subscribers click that little unsubscribe link at the bottom of the page.

As our inboxes get more and more crowded with email marketing, our subscribers are looking more keenly at being provided with relevant content - content they expected to receive when subscribing to our newsletters in the first place.

Email blasting advertisement is done, it is passe and frankly it doesn't work anymore. Do what you can to find out your subscribers profiles either at sign up or somewhere during your email marketing campaign. Use this information to deliver content that will be helpful and useful to them, in other words, of value.

Some people may fashion their email campaign in the form of a report and offer corresponding links to books or products directly related to the subject matter. For example if your target audience are pet owners and your email subject is about making your own pet food, you may consider adding a link to a Pet Food Recipe Book sold on buy.com or amazon with your affiliate URL. If you own an online store and stock this particular product, even better, just link to your store.

The trick is to offering value to your customers is to educate then sell. Give them a logical reason why they should continue to subscribe to your newsletters and follow your recommendations and you will eventually create a nice following of customers. Happy customers, who will share and recommend your valuable resources to others.

So even if you are not "officially" in the bounds of spamming consider carefully what your goals are. The Internet was built for information if you giving information and providing valuable content and products then you will soon develop the key to success in online marketing... an authority in your field and a good reputation.
